What Is Sexual Abuse?
Child sexual abuse is a heinous crime. According to the Crown Prosecutive Service (CPS), it involves forcing or inciting a child under the age of 18 to take part in sexual acitivity.
This activity can be physical, such as rape, oral sex or kissing. Or it could be non-physical, such as taking pictures of children or encouraging them to behave in sexually inappropriate ways.
Sexual abuse can be committed by men, women or other children, and the child doesn’t need to be aware of what is happening for it to be a crime.
How Do Sexual Abuse Claims Work?
The Government created the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme back in 1964 to provide compensation to blameless victims of crime.
Under the Scheme, it’s possible to receive compensation for sexual abuse, including historic child abuse that may stretch back decades.
As it’s the Government Scheme that compensates you, the perpetrator will never know.
To be eligible to claim, you’ll need to report the crime to the police, the incident must have occurred in England, Scotland or Wales, and you must be a resident in the UK when the incident took place.
